T he th u n d e r rolled and pealed like all the big guns of the naval fleet had let loose at once. T rees groaned, popped and sh riek ed like th e ea r-sp littin g sounds o f t h e grinding of th e ice floes of th e pillar regions T he p arty got out of th e ir cars and w alked a q u a rte r of a mile, and in th a t distance they counted 27 large trees laid low and ground to sp lin ters by the lightning. It took a large crew of men w ith axes and saw s one hour to clear a path for th e stalled au to mobiles, w hich w ere as m any as H illsboro saw d u rin g the "H appy Days" parade.
